With the passage of the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) in the 2022 General Assembly, Virginia is taking the lead nationwide to improve early literacy outcomes for Virginia’s young learners. VAST wants to ensure you are up to date with the VLA and how VAST can support you with information and other opportunities this school year and beyond.
Please take a moment to review the Virginia Literacy Updates (June 2024), especially page 7. The VAST Science Educator (our newsletter) provided an early version of this table.
The updated table details the UVA-developed Canvas courses for each group of educators, the anticipated release date, the number of modules, and the approximate completion time. All Canvas modules for an educator group will be released at the same time to encourage individualized pacing, and completion time will vary on the participant’s pacing and the content of the module. Divisions will be responsible for signing their educators up for the necessary Canvas modules to meet the VLA requirements.
Continue to visit the News section on the VAST website for more information about VLA and other topics. We are here to support you!
