Job Announcement: Cristo Rey Richmond High School

Cristo Rey Richmond High School is a Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience, students graduate ready to succeed in college and in life. Cristo Rey Richmond High School will soon be a part of the largest network of high schools in the country that exclusively serve families of limited economic means.

Characteristics of a CRRHS Teaching Candidate

Qualifications and Experience

  •       Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  •       Possession of a valid Virginia teaching license (required)
  •       Two years of urban teaching experience (preferred)
  •       Bilingual (not required)

Responsibilities (Cultural)

  •       Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents and students

  •       Adhere to professional guidelines as indicated in the staff handbook
  •       Participate in school-wide culture and faith formation events
  •       Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities (Instructional)

  •       Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment
  •       Plan rigorous lessons aligned to the prescribed standards
  •       Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners
  •       Adhere to a scope and sequence
  •       Implement feedback from administrators and instructional leaders regarding lesson plan design and/or implementation
  •       Support instruction with school-wide supplemental programs
  •       Maintain grade books and meet grade reporting deadlines
  •       Communicate with families regarding student academics and behavior
  •       Utilize planning periods for the advancement of student academics
  •       Tutor students in need of remediation


  • Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or science problems to secondary students, utilizing core curriculum and other appropriate learning activities approved by the administration or school board
  • Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning
  • Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids
  • Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects/experiments are being worked on concurrently
  • Instructs students in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and plant and animal life.
  • Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required
  • Selects and requests books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals and supplies, and maintains inventory records as required
  • Cooperates with the school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community, and in sponsoring science activities
